1. Product Overview
CP40B is the upgraded high-performance Control Processor 40B flagship CPU for Foxboro I/A Series DCS, succeeding CP30 and early CP40 versions, designed to drive large-scale complex process control nodes with massive analog, discrete and fieldbus I/O load. It is the core computing unit of each DCS control node, responsible for real-time scanning of all FBM field modules, executing closed-loop control logic, interlock logic, sequence control and data exchange with operator stations and plant-wide MESH network.
Equipped with upgraded memory and faster processing clock compared to original CP40, CP40B supports far more control blocks, longer control scan cycles and complex multi-variable control strategies. It natively works with all Compact 200 FBM series modules including HART analog I/O, thermocouple/RTD temperature modules, PROFIBUS-DP communication FBM223 and discrete DI/DO FBM241 series.
Two deployment modes available: simplex single CPU for small auxiliary control nodes; fault-tolerant redundant pair (two CP40B modules installed on same node rack) for critical main production units. Redundant CP40B pair runs fully synchronized parallel operation, both CPUs receive identical FBM data and execute identical control algorithms simultaneously. Real-time cross-comparison of communication messages and internal registers continuously monitors hardware faults; once primary CPU malfunctions, standby tracker takes over all control tasks seamlessly within milliseconds with zero process output bump, eliminating single-point CPU failure risk for furnace, reactor, compressor and distillation critical production lines.
Dual independent isolated communication buses: Nodebus for inter-node & workstation communication; redundant Fieldbus backplane for all FBM I/O module data acquisition and command output. Built-in full multi-layer self-diagnosis continuously detects CPU core error, memory corruption, bus short/open, FBM offline, power supply abnormality and communication timeout; all fault alarms and historical event logs are timestamped and transmitted to DCS operator HMI for centralized maintenance management.
Compliant with ISA S71.04 Class G3 harsh industrial standard, resistant to dust, high humidity, chemical vapor and vibration; optional IPC-CC-830 anti-salt-fog conformal coating for offshore oil & gas Zone2 hazardous control rooms. CP40B is end-of-life original hardware, currently only supplied as maintenance spare parts for aging I/A Series DCS systems in power, petrochemical and offshore industries.
